    What is Weight Distribution?

Weight Distribution is used for distributing the weight of the trailer to the trailer axles and the tow vehicle axles. The components of a Weight Distributing System is made up of four products.

    1. A Weight Distributing (WD) Hitch which would be attached to the tow vehicle.
    2. A Ball Mount that connects to the Hitch.
    3. A Spring Bar Assembly that actually distribute the weight.
    4. A Sway Control device that helps the trailer from swaying

    Trunnion WD
Trunnion Bar weight distributing is designed for medium to heavy duty towing. Hidden Hitch offers this in many different weight rating sizes. An alternative to Trunnion weight distribution is the Round bar weight distribution.

    WD Shanks
Weight Distributing Shanks are to be used with Round or Trunnion style weight distributing systems. The shanks come in different lengths and sizes.

    Sway Control
There are two popular methods of sway control. The older, more common form of sway control is a friction device referred to as FrictionSway Control. A more contemporary approach is a device controlled by cam action. Known as Dual Cam Sway Control, it is an innovative and effective technique to help control trailer sway before it starts.

    What is a Gooseneck?

A gooseneck hitch is designed for use in a pickup truck similar to a Fifth Wheel. The difference is that the gooseneck uses a ball and coupler verse a kingpin and pin receiver. Typically, the trailers that are most commonly used for this type of gooseneck hitch is a horse trailer. Gooseneck hitches are offered in a few types of configurations, they are designed to be mounted above or below the trucks pickup bed. Either design (above or below) allows for minimal obstruction when the ball is not in the towing position.

Signature Series Gooseneck This product takes advantage of the under bed mounting system designed for the Signature Series Fifth Wheels. When the unit is removed from the truck bed there are virtually no obstructions.

Hide-A-Goose This product is designed to mount under the truck bed for use with a gooseneck trailer. Only a 4 inch hole in the truck bed is required for this product. The ball is stored upside down in the hitch when not used, with a magnetic cover to cover up the hole.

Fold-Down & Remov-A-Ball These units mount on top of an under bed rail system. The ball is either removed or folded down for easy access.

    What is a Fifth Wheel?

A fifth wheel is a specially designed hitch with a king pin receiver that mounts over or forward of the rear axle of the vehicle. The hitch connects with the king pin on the fifth wheel trailer. Fifth wheel hitches are easy to operate and require little maintenance.

    15K & 16K Fifth Wheel
Hidden Hitch offers these two styles of hitches that mount to a rail kit that is installed in the truck bed.

    Brake Controls

Brake controls are designed to apply the brakes of the towed vehicle (trailer). There are three types of brake controls on the market today timed, inertia, and proportional. Another type of braking system that is used for trailers is a breakaway kit.

    Timed Controls
Timed based controls generate an output signal that increases over a period of time. The time based controls apply braking power at the fixed rate that is not proportional to the pressure applied to the brake pedal.

    Proportional Controls
Proportional based controls offer a smooth braking response to almost any stop. Through the use of a sensing device, the brake control can determine the tow vehicle's rate of deceleration and then apply the trailer brakes to match. In other words, Proportional controls deliver power to the trailer brakes in direct relationship to the actual physical deceleration of the tow vehicle.

    Breakaway Kit
A breakaway kit is designed to apply to trailer electric brakes in the event that the trailer becomes disconnected from the hitch while in motion. This kit is required in many of the States and Provinces.
